COLLECTIVE LEARNING LAB
PARTNERS
WITH YOUTH TO CREATE
COMMUNITY-CENTERED
PROJECTS
THAT INSPIRE CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
AND CONNECTION TO
THEIR CITY.
HOW WE
DO
THIS
1.
Through inquiry.
We create place-based curriculum that center on ecology, sustainability, and the built environment. Working with young people, we generate a concrete community project fueled by their ideas, desires and concerns.
2.
Through collaboration.
With emphasis on holistic and integrative teaching, we bring in practicing artists, community leaders, local business owners, city officials, and stakeholders of all kinds into the classroom to guide our community projects. We also plan and coordinate student field trips to local Chicago institutions, museums, and landmarks.
3.
Through EXPERTISE.
We take steps to accomplish the project with the guidance of CLL’s partners and experts. Young people leave with a clearer understanding on strategy, how things get done, a closer connection to their community, and an expanded sense of place in their city. Stakeholders get a chance to hear the youth of Chicago’s ideas, desires, and concerns.
INQUIRY
We create projects rooted in student curiosity and curriculum that inspire informed action.
WE BELIEVE THAT THE VOICES OF YOUNG PEOPLE
ARE VITAL
FOR HEALTHY & THRIVING COMMUNITIES.
COLLABORATION
We build relationships between Chicago youth and Chicago institutions.
“The kids are speaking, they have a voice, their voice matters, their desires matter, they’re the future.” — Raven Mayo, Science Teacher, CPS Middle School
EXPERTISE
We bring in local leaders, city workers, and practicing artists into the classroom.
WE AMPLIFY
YOUTH VOICES
